Usage:
1. The cross-linked XLPE insulated and corrugated aluminum wrapper waterproof PVC sheathed power cable.
Suitable for damp areas and the places with a lower underground water level and to be used underground, in tunnels or pipes. Such cables bear a bigger pulling force and pressure.

Difference between Lead alloy sheath and Corrugated aluminum sheath in HV cables
In the long-term running process, the moisture intrusion will cause water tree in XLPE insulation layer. With the
influence of electric field action, water tree will transfer to electric tree then cause breakdown. To increase the cable service life, metallic sheath will be required as the radial waterproof layer in high and extra high voltage cables. Nowadays, the common metallic sheath are lead alloy sheath and corrugated aluminum sheath. To provide a better choose for customers, we make a detailed comparison between them.
Lead sheath has been used for a long time. As early as in 1830, British created cold drawn lead pipe as cable’s sealing sheath. In 1879, Sweden invented lead extrusion machine which can directly melt the lead then wrap the insulated cable core. Then the lead sheath cable were widely used and improved. Presently, the most popular one is E type lead alloys sheath.
Generally, lead alloy sheath has the following advantages: Lead is completely water-impervious. It can definitely prevent water and moisture intrusion, and has good sealing property. Lead has a lower melting point (327.5 ℃). The paper insulation won’t be damaged in the process of extruding lead sheath. When the temperature is 200℃, lead turns to semiliquid state then is squeezed into closed sheath. So the process is simple and also makes the sealing process be convenient. Lead has good corrosion resistance. No damage can be caused by dilute sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Only Nitric acid, acetic acid, carbolic acid and ulcer of some organics can cause corrosion to lead. Good toughness of lead assures bendability of cables.
With time passes, people find out some defects of lead: Low reserves of lead in the earth is a barrier. And lead is essential strategic materials in the Defense and atomic energy industry. Lead is toxic. (Other defects will be mentioned later.)
So, even though there has been a century history for the use of lead sheath for cables, people never give up looking for a better alternatives. Generally, the cable metallic sheath develops from lead sheath–longitudinal Composite aluminum-plastics tape to extruded aluminum sheath–argon arc welding aluminum sheath. Corrugated aluminum sheath of uses argon arc welding aluminum technology.

Good resistance to shock: Pure lead is easy to crack under shock. Even vibration strength of lead alloy improves little. The density of aluminum is less than a quarter of lead’s but the intensity is 5 times better. Aluminum has high mechanical strength, not afraid of vibration, and can be used for larger vertical gap, direct buried circumstances. If it’s laid in bridge, overhead, anti-vibration device will not be needed.
Good tensile resistance: Aluminum sheath can withstand greater tension compared to lead sheath and is not easy to be damaged during laying of traction.
Good pressure resistance: when be buried underground, lead sheath cables need steel tape armor layer, but aluminum sheath cable doesn’t. And steel tape armor contributes little to improve pressure resistance in aluminum sheath cable.
Good creep resistance: Under the action of gravity, lead sheath has recrystallization tendency, especially at high temperatures and vibration circumstances, creep intensifies. The formation of cracks between the coarse lead grain easily let the water and moisture come into the cable inside then cause damage. Creep phenomenon rarely happens for aluminum sheath cable.
High hardness: aluminum is harder than lead. So it has better properties in anti insect, anti-mouse bite and anti termit.
Good lightning protection: the conductivity of aluminum is seven times of lead. The melting point is twice higher than lead. When struck by lightning, aluminum sheath electric drainage performance is better than lead sheath. Counterattack to insulation core and scorification rarely happens.
Light weight: Due to the higher conductivity than lead, aluminum sheath cable doesn’t need metallic screen like lead sheath cable does. So the corrugated aluminum sheath cable structure is more simple. Plus the density of aluminum is only a quarter of lead, weight of the aluminum sheath cable is only about 70% of lead sheath cable for easier transportation and installation of laying.
More simplified structure also saves material and reduces costs.
Environmental protection: As we all know, lead is toxic. With the enhancement of technological progress and environmental protection concepts, lead sheathed cables will eventually fade into history.
In addition, after the corrugation process, cable softness is improved, fully meets the requirements of laying. In the atmosphere, due to oxidation, it forms a dense oxide protection film in the surface of aluminum. And the anti-corrosion layer we designed also improves the corrosion resistance of the cable effectively.
