Composition 

– Conductor

Plain circular, compacted or shaped stranded copper or aluminum conductor, conform to IEC60228 class 2.

– Insulation

XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) rated at 90°C.

– Assembly

Four insulated conductors are laid up together, if necessary filled with non-hygroscopic material compatible with the insulation and covered with a layer of PVC bedding which may be an integral part of the filling.

-Armor

Galvanized steel wire shall be applied over the PVC bedding.

1. What is the difference between XLPE cable and PVC cable? 

PVC – Poly Vinyl chloride ; XLPE – Cross linked Poly Ethylene

PVC :  thermo plastic ;  XLPE: thermosetting plastic. 

PVC can withstand temperatures up to 70°C ; XLPE can do 90°C.

PVC costs lower with large market, XLPE costs higher with smaller market.
