Construction

Conductor

Plain circular, compacted or shaped stranded copper or aluminum conductor, conform to IEC60228 class 2.

Insulation

XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) rated at 90°C.

Assembly

Two, three, four or five insulated conductors are laid up together, if necessary filled with non-hygroscopic material compatible with the insulation and covered with a layer of PVC bedding which may be an integral part of the filling.

Armor

Single core – Aluminum wire shall be applied over the PVC bedding. Multicore – Galvanized steel wire shall be applied over the PVC bedding.

Application:

These core cables are most suitable for underground burial where there is a risk of mechanical damage.

They are suitable for direct burial or for installation on trays of ducts. Where there is a risk of mechanical damage.

Differences between XLPE and PVC

XLPE can be used for both high and low tension application. Its structure provides great resistance to abrasion, stress and other wear and tear. PVC insulation cannot withstand as much pressure, meaning it is only suitable for low tension applications.

1. XLPE insulation tends to last longer than PVC insulation.

2. Since XLPE does not contain chloride, it is more environmentally friendly.

3. XLPE insulation can withstand higher temperatures.

1. What is the difference between XLPE cable and PVC cable? 

PVC – Poly Vinyl chloride ; XLPE – Cross linked Poly Ethylene

PVC :  thermo plastic ;  XLPE: thermosetting plastic. 

PVC can withstand temperatures up to 70°C ; XLPE can do 90°C.

PVC costs lower with large market, XLPE costs higher with smaller market.
