From a design point of view, medium-voltage cables are of three types:

1. single-core cable, 2. three single-core cables laid-up, 3. three-core cable.

Construction:

Conductor(copper or aluminium) – conductor screen of semiconducting compound – insulation of cross-linked polyethylen (XLPE) – screen of semiconducting compound – semiconducting swellable tape – screen of copper tape or copper wires+copper tape – separation tape – PVC or PE sheath. *Low smoke Halogen free fire resistant or flame retardant material is available.

Usage Envirnment:

in ground, outdoors, in water, indoors and in cable ducts

Application:

The medium voltage cables with insulation of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) are designed for transfer and distribution of electrical power with nominal voltage Uo/U 3.6/6 to 20/35 kV and frequency 50 Hz in urban and district electrical networks and for electrical supply of transformer's substations, small and medium industrial plants. They are suitable for use in distribution installations, electric power stations and industrial systems. The cables are for fixed assembly in lines with unlimited difference levels, indoor installations, in cable ducts, conduits and shafts, over shelves and grills directly underground in ditch and outdoor shelter.

Its structure is simple. The long period operating temperature is +90 °C. It is conveninet to use and can be laid with no restriction of different level.

XLPE insulated steel wire armoured power cable: XLPE/PVC insulated power cable has a number of advantages over paper insulated and PVC insulated cable. XLPE cable has high electric strength, mechanical strength, high-ageing resisting, environmetal stress resisting antichemical corrossion, and it is simple construction, using convenient and higher operating of long term temperature. It can be laid with no drop restriction.

Bare aluminum conductors, especially in the form of Aluminum Conductors Steel Reinforced(ACSR), have been widely used for overhead transmission lines as the most cost-effective and dependable product. As the name implies, ACSR is a concentrically stranded conductor composed of one or more layers of hard-drawn EC grade aluminum wires over a high strength coated steel core. The core may be single wire or stranded, depending on the size. Because of the numerous stranding combinations of aluminum and steel wires that may be used, it is possible to vary the portions of aluminum and steel so as to obtain the most suitable relation between current carrying capacity and mechanical strength for each application. For instance, a conductor having a small proportion of steel may be most economical for a wood pole line to transmit a large block of power whereas a conductor with a very large proportion of steel would be required for a long span crossing over water. Between these two extremes are the conductors with normal proportions of aluminum and steel generally used for the more conventional transmission and distribution lines.

Anti-corrosion A.C.S.R. Anti-corrosion ACSR is used in the corrosive areas like coastal areas or industrial zones. This ACSR is filled with anti-corrosive grease applied on the gaps between stranded wires and their external surfaces. Generally, anti-corrosion ACSR is divided into three types according to the method of greases coating :

Light Anti-corrosion Type : Only steel wires are coated

Medium Anti-corrosion Type : All the inner layers are coated

Heavy Anti-corrosion Type : All the inner and outer layers are coated
